Our three hour "Taste
of Sea Kayaking" tours are intended for those who have a lot to do on San
Juan Island and not a lot of time or would like to simply try out sea kayaking
in this kayakers' paradise. These tours leave from
Snug Harbor Marina and
Resort located on beautiful Mitchell Bay. Here at Snug Harbor we will introduce
you to kayaking, get you familiar with and provide you with all of the necessary
kayaking equipment and give you an informative kayak/safety lesson.
Once we are all comfortable
and ready we will launch from our specially built kayak docks onto the protected
waters of Mitchell Bay starting our 5-6 mile round trip paddle along the Pacific
Madrone and Douglas-fir cloaked "West Side" of San Juan Island. While
on the water your knowledgeable and friendly naturalist kayak guide will educate
you about the surrounding region and wildlife while helping you further improve
your kayaking skills.
Examples of some commonly
seen flora and fauna: Bald Eagles, Pacific Harbor Seals, Orcas (Killer Whales),
Dall's Porpoises, Great Blue Herons, Ochre Sea Stars, Pacific Madrones,
Douglas-firs and forests of Bull Kelp.
Recommended items to bring:
Layered clothing (T-shirt, sweatshirt, wind breaker or an outer shell), long
pants or shorts, sunglasses, sun block, hat, lip balm, comfortable foot wear,
water, a small snack, camera (may possibly get wet) and a great attitude.
No experience necessary.
